Science
Science teaching at Lambourn CofE Primary School aims to give children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge. Science is taught as Biology, Chemistry or Physics topics which are structured as series of key enquiry questions. These topics are revisited and developed throughout their time at school to ensure continuity and progression. Specialist vocabulary is introduced at the beginning of each topic and built up across each key stage and concepts are taught by focussing on the scientific enquiry questions. This allows children to build on their prior knowledge, increase engagement and enjoyment for further learning whilst embedding this knowledge into the long-term memory. Scientific enquiry skills are embedded within each topic the children study to develop and use a range of skills including observation, planning and investigation to become independent learners in exploring possible answers to our key enquiry questions. Our aim is for all children to enjoy, engage and be curious of the world around them as active learners.

Together these knowledge and skills will develop our children’s critical thinking and help them to question the influences of the past on decisions today.
Modern Foreign Languages
Learning a second language in primary school provides children with essential skills. In our school, we make sure we give children the opportunity to learn a different language, to ask and answer questions and to build their confidence. Through teaching a second language, we promote a broader intercultural understanding, respecting others learning the similarities and differences.
Religious Education
Our R.E curriculum has a significant role for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We promote respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourage pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. We will engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions. We will also explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions and develop a more rigorous understanding of the numerous religious traditions, beliefs and practices that are followed in our multi-cultural society. We want them to know how religious education promotes understanding and enables pupils to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and lifelong learning.
Music & Drama
Our children will gain a firm understanding of musical concepts through a variety of experiences. Children will learn about the structure and organisation of music using the correct terminology and will listen to and analyse music from different time-periods and cultures. All children will learn to play at least one tuned instrument and will also experience playing a range of others, both tuned and untuned. Through singing, playing and composing, children will develop a strong sense of rhythm, musical notation and collaboration.
We believe that drama performances enrich the children’s experience in school and all Infants perform in our annual Nativity musical at Christmas time. In addition our Y3/4 children perform at Easter and the Y6 end of summer performance is always a real treat.

In 2013 the government introduced provided substantial primary school sport funding. The funding has been jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and has seen money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Since 2017 schools have received £16,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year. This money is ring-fenced for sport and PE provision only. All schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but there is freedom to choose how we do it. At Lambourn we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. In addition, we believe that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.
