Admissions

Every day is an open day here at Lambourn CofE Primary School.  We know what an important decision choosing a school is for your child/ren, so we warmly welcome you to come and book a visit to see how the children really are at the centre of everything that we do and to talk to our dedicated teaching and support staff.

Come and view our amazing school grounds where outdoor learning is encouraged and to talk to our children about their everyday learning opportunities both in school and how we regularly engage in the wider community with local trips and visits.

  • Individual School Tours:  Personal tours led by our Principal, Miss Cupit
  • Stay and Play Sessions: Once availability has been confirmed for children starting in pre-school (aged three and above), places are available to book for a taster session on a Friday morning from 9.30-10.30am.  Entry dates for nursery are September, January and April.
  • Starting School in September 2025: Once you have had your personal tour and have made your application to West Berkshire for a place at Lambourn CofE from September 2025, we will have two transition days planned in the summer term of 2025.

Lambourn CofE Primary School is a single form entry school which means we  have one class for each year group. Much thought and time is given to ensuring a smooth transition for each class into their next year group. It is always really exciting for the children to move up each year and work with different teachers, as all our staff have their own particular strengths, interests and ways of engaging children in their learning.

Contact Mrs Bowen in the school office on 01488 71479 to arrange your visit or email [email protected]

By law a child does not have to start school until the term following their fifth birthday however most children start school in the September following their fourth birthday. Applications are managed to a national timetable and co-ordinated between local authorities across England.  This means that parents must apply to the local authority where they live, even if applying for schools in another area. If you live in West Berkshire you can find all the information here. West Berks Primary Admissions

All offers will be for a full time place but if you would prefer your child to attend part-time or delay entry until later in the year please contact the school direct to arrange this.

Admission in other school years

If you have a child who is joining us in Y1 – Y6, you are likely to have moved into the area or your child has transferred from another school. We would like to welcome you to Lambourn; we often welcome new children into school. We have buddies who look after our new pupils to help them to settle in, find their way around and help them to make new friends.

Parents can make an application for West Berkshire school places at any time in the year. Known as an ‘In Year Application’ they can be processed up to six weeks, or half a term, in advance of your requested start date. Information on making an In Year Application can be found here West Berks In Year Admissions

Secondary Transition

At the end of Year 6, children transfer to secondary school; most of our children go to John O’Gaunt School which is also part of Excalibur Academies Trust so they benefit from a continuing all-through education.  Applications for a place at secondary school must be made through West Berks Council in the autumn term of Year 6. The deadline for secondary school admissions is midnight on 31 October 2021. Your child will bring home a form or you can apply online.

Transfer arrangements for our Year 6 pupils going to secondary school are sent to parents during the Spring Term prior to their children starting in September. These arrangements include visits to the school, visits to Lambourn Primary School by secondary school and parents’ evenings.
